Connection matters, especially in design. Finding a path to connect people and information in a beautiful manner is such a joy when it's done well. The joining of strategic thinking and creative execution is what sets me apart.
In high school, I joined the Boy Scouts of America as a way to step outside of my comfort zone. One summer, I even taught the pioneering merit badge at a summer camp in Missouri. Of all the knots and techniques taught that summer, the square knot sticks with me to this day. The function of a square knot is to bind things together, often two ropes that are close to the same diameter. It creates something new out of this tension. That's how I feel about design too. In the tension of strategy and creativity, we solve problems beautifully.
